Help Utopia in Action bring Palliative and Hospice Care to Hanover Park.

Vision

To honour human dignity and empower communities to overcome poverty.

Mission

To create a loving and sustainable sanctuary where all can flourish with dignity through excellent palliative and hospice training, education, service, and care.

Palliative Care is a basic Human Right.

It is fundamental to the health and human dignity of the individual and the community. This holistic approach to care focuses not only on managing pain and physical symptoms, but also addresses psychosocial, legal, and spiritual aspects associated with life-threatening illnesses. It aims to improve the quality of life of patients and their families facing life limiting illnesses from time of diagnosis to bereavement support.

Challenges Faced on the Cape Flats

The people residing on the Cape Flats have endured marginalization due to circumstances beyond their control:

  1. Government Health Policy: Poor individuals over 40 years of age, burdened by co-morbidities, struggle to access critical medical interventions like Dialysis and Chemotherapy due to limitations in government health policies.

  2. Lack of Home-Based Care: The prevalence of gangsterism and violent crimes in the area has hindered the establishment of effective home-based care services.

  3. Limited Career Opportunities: High dropout rates from schools have left many without viable career options, perpetuating the cycle of disadvantage.

Bridging the Gap

Together, we can ensure that compassionate care reaches those on the Cape Flats. Join us in championing this essential human right.

Palliative care – adding LIFE to days and not days to life.
